Beskrivning

Alexandra Feodorovna Romanov (1872 – 1918) was Empress of Russia as the spouse of Nicholas II, the last ruler of the Russian Empire. She was a granddaughter of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom, one of the most famous royal carriers of the haemophilia disease. Alix met and fell in love with Grand Duke Nicholas, heir to the throne of Russia, and they married in 1894. The couple had five children, four daughters and a son, the heir to the Throne of Russia; he had haemophilia. Unlike her vivacious and popular mother-in-law, Alexandra was heartily disliked among her subjects. She came off as very cold and curt, although she was only terribly shy and nervous in front of the Russian people. She also had a terrible relationship with her mother-in-law, Maria Feodorovna. Her reputation for influencing her husband's resistance to the surrender of autocratic authority over the country and her known faith in the Russian mystic, Grigori Rasputin, severely damaged her and the Romanov monarchy's reputation in its last years. After the disastrous War, abdication and revolution in 1917, the Imperal family was imprisoned and killed in 1918. They were ceremonial buried in 1998 and canonized in the Year 2000.
